Newsroom Podcast July 7 – Hurricane Beryl, animal shelters overflow, tracking food trucks and more

Fourth of July landed in the middle of the week meaning an extended vacation for some, including government officials. While we wait for phone calls and emails to be returned, we kept a wary eye on the weather and checked out a slew of new restaurants.

For many it was a quiet week in Wilmington — the Fourth of July holiday, landing in the middle of the week, seemingly kept a lot of government employees from answering questions.

So, in the meantime, we took a look at the Pender County Animal Shelter’s attempt to adopt out all of their pets by waiving adoption fees. The good news? It worked. The bad news, the shelter filled up again, almost immediately.

Then we take a look at some of our recent ‘Brews and Bites’ stories, including a grilled-cheese restaurant on wheels (i.e. a food truck) and a North Carolina-based barbecue restaurant’s new Wilmington outpost.

Last, we preview a new feature: the Food Truck Tracker. It is exactly what it sounds like, and with more food trucks on the roads then ever before, it’s bound to be a useful tool for area foodies.

Want to catch up on the latest restaurants, bars, and breweries? You’ll find all of those stories in our BREWS AND BITES section. Check them out here.
