Wilmington Police investigate pair of related shootings that took place over the weekend

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a Sunday morning drive-by shooting that is believed to be related to another shooting that happened Saturday afternoon.

“On Sunday around 8:40 a.m., WPD responded to the 1100 block of Carnation Court around 8:40 a.m. Sunday after receiving a ShotSpotter notification that several rounds had been fired in the area. Officers discovered a house had been struck with several bullets while people were inside the residence. No one was injured,” according to a police department press release.

When officers arrived on scene, a vehicle that was parked nearby was discovered with several bullet holes in it, matching the description from a shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon.

“Maria Bonsignore, who was in the house at the time of the shooting along with validated Bloods gang member Michael Hines, confirmed it was her vehicle and that she had been driving it when an unknown black male shot into the car. She did not report the incident,” the release states.

“According to witnesses, Bonsignore was stopped at the red light at Oleander Drive when a dark Chevy Tahoe with tinted windows pulled up behind it. A passenger jumped from the Tahoe, ran to Bonsignore’s car and fired multiple rounds into it before fleeing,” the release states.

Both Bonsignore and Hines said they do not know who shot at the house.
