Update: Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies have located missing Leland girl

Updated Oct. 12: Maya Michelle James has been found and is safe, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

LELAND — Brunswick County Sheriff’s Deputies are asking for the public’s help finding a young woman who went missing Tuesday.

Maya Michelle James, 15, was last seen at her residence on Birch Creek Lane in Leland. She is believed to have left her home with a young man named John Ellis Dematties, 18. The two were last seen at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and may have left in a vehicle, although this has not been confirmed.

Maya is a black female, with black hair and brown eyes. She is approximately five foot, three inches tall and 150 pounds. Dematties is a white male with short brown hair and brown eyes; he is five foot, 10 inches, and weights approximately 160 pounds.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of either to contact Detective Ed Carter at 910-253-2777 or to call 911.
