KURE BEACH — Kick back, relax, and enjoy the “island life” this Sunday in Kure Beach, as the 8th Annual Island Day celebration returns to celebrate all things Pleasure Island.

The free event, held each year on the island, is hosted by the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce, the Carolina Beach Downtown Initiative, and the towns of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.

This year’s event will be held at Ocean Front Park, off Atlantic Avenue from 1-5 p.m.

According to the Chamber of Commerce website, the event will feature live music throughout the day from Carl Newton’s Review, as well as a performance from Pleasure Island Dance.

Area businesses, churches and non-profits will be hosting booths for a range of activities, including face painting, massages and pony rides on the beach from 2-4 p.m.

If that’s not quite your style, Wake N Bake Donuts will be hosting a doughnut eating contest, there will also be a photo booth, live reptiles, corn hole, raffles, games and a variety of other “hands-on activities and educational opportunities.”

Hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be provided by the Carolina and Kure Beach Fire Departments. Coolers are allowed, but not alcoholic beverages.

“Sit on your blankets, relax and enjoy the music, activities, and time with friends and neighbors,” the Chamber states on its website. “Everything is free. The weather looks beautiful. It is going to be a great day – we hope to see you there!”
