Dogs will rule the pool next week for annual ‘Pooch Plunge’

WILMINGTON — As city pools close for the season, it’s time for residents’ four-legged friends to have a turn.

Labor Day – Monday, September 4 – is the last day for swimming at the city’s pools, but the Legion Stadium Pool will remain open for an additional week for dogs and dogs only. (According to the County Health Department, humans may not get in the pool or even dip their feet in the water.)

A few rules and regulations apply:

  • $5 per dog, cash only
  • All dogs must be up-to-date on vaccines
  • Owners are responsible for their pets behavior
  • No aggressive dogs

Legion Stadium pool is operated by the YMCA, which partners with the City of Wilmington to sponsor the Pooch Plunge. The event runs next week from Tuesday through Sunday,  September 5 -10; hours vary depending on the day.

  • Tuesday 4 – 8 p.m
  • Wednesday 4 – 8 p.m
  • Thursday 4 – 8 p.m
  • Friday 4 – 8 p.m
  • Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Sunday noon- 4 p.m
