WILMINGTON – No one else in popular American music has recorded for so long and at such a high level of excellence as Tony Bennett. On Friday, Aug. 18, the 19-time Grammy Award-winning musician will perform at Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center.

Bennett’s music spans over six decades, with worldwide record sales in the millions and dozens of platinum and gold albums,according to a press release from the college.
“Bennett has touched the hearts and souls of audiences for generations with his legendary vocals and charming stage presence,” the release states. “His signature tunes, such as ‘Steppin’ Out With My Baby’ and ‘I Left My Heart In San Francisco’ form part of the fabric of American music culture.
“Often billed as the world’s most boyish octogenarian, Bennett is a vital musical artist at the peak of his powers,” the release states.
Bennett’s daughter, Antonia Bennett, has been touring with her father and will open the performance with a collection of jazz/pop standards. Antonia Bennett is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music.
