UPDATE: One dead, one injured in Monkey Junction shooting

UPDATED at 8:23 P.M.

WILMINGTON — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic situation that left one person dead Tuesday afternoon in Monkey Junction.

According to a press release from New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer,  sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at 5229 Woods Edge Rd today for shots fired.

Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 2 p.m. and entered the home. Deputies found a 34-year-old woman deceased due to gunshot wounds. Deputies also found a 48-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The woman’s three year old son was also located in the backyard of the home and turned over to his grandmother.  Detectives believe this incident to be contained to the home.  The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

WILMINGTON — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic situation that left one person dead Tuesday afternoon in Monkey Junction.

The shooting occurred off of Woods Edge Road. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer said the shooting was the result of a domestic situation that left one person dead and another wounded, but “the situation is contained.”

The Sheriff’s office is conducting a homicide investigation at this time, and will update as more information becomes available.
