WILMINGTON — The downtown Riverwalk along the Cape Fear has come one step closer to completion after two major segments were linked up on Wednesday.
Construction was completed today at the intersection of city-owned portions of the Riverwalk and the future home of restaurants BlackFinn Ameripub and Vida Mexican Kitchen y Cantina. Two sections of walkway were joined where the western end of Harnett Street will eventually meet the Riverwalk.
USA Investco, which owns the property, along with its partners on Blackfinn and Vida, a Charlotte-based Bar Management Group, have been in negotiations for the public/private use of the Riverwalk space, including the bandshell at Pier 33, and the possibility of public bathrooms at the end of Harnett Street.
The newly linked sections of Riverwalk extend from the Wilmington Convention Center, along the site of the future North Waterfront Park. The sections travel north to the marshy shores of the Cape Fear River underneath the Isabel Holmes Bridge before becoming private property at the north end clubhouse for the Saw Mill Point Apartments.
