BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A Supply man will serve at least 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of 21-year-old Iqueisha Tequila Monique Collins in April 2014.
William Calvin Steward, 38, pleaded guilty Monday in Brunswick County Superior Court before Judge James Gregory Bell. Along with the murder plea, Steward pleaded guilty to other felony charges including, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and firing into an occupied vehicle.
Collins was one of two people shot during a party at a home on Eastfield Lane in Supply at about 11 p.m. on April 8, 2014. Steward was charged with firing a rifle into a vehicle occupied by Collins and another male victim.
The two victims were air-lifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. The male victim had been shot in the leg. Collins had been shot in the head and died three days later.
Steward had faced several felony charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, when initially arrested. He was charged with murder following Collins’ death.
Judge Bell sentenced Steward t0 144 to 185 months in the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
