KURE BEACH — The weather was unseasonably warm, which probably was just fine for the hordes of people who plunged into the Atlantic on Saturday to support the New Hanover County chapter of the Special Olympics.
For the 13th year, Kure Beach hosted a Polar Plunge to support the county’s chapter of the Special Olympics. And 10 minutes of ocean time was hardly all the town offered. In fact, before the plunge there was it was a full day of events, from a costume contest to 5K and 1K runs.
The annual event gives 100 percent of its proceeds to the Special Olympics.
