WILMINGTON — Valentine’s Day is almost here. What better way to get into the spirit of love than reading poetry?
The finale of our Valentine’s Day haiku contest is now underway on Facebook with a “Like” contest.
Readers submitted nearly 100 haikus that the Local Voice Media staff has narrowed down to a Top 10. Now, it’s your chance to get into the spirit of love and to weigh in on those haikus you think are the best.
A haiku is a simple format: 17 syllables, set up on three lines with five, seven and five syllables, per line, respectively.
Go the Port City Daily’s Facebook page and find our Valentine’s Day Haiku Like contest photo album. It’s full of hearts, each with a single haiku inside, submitted from different local poets. Some may warm your heart, some may leave you thinking and others may make you laugh – so read through them all and “Like” your favorites.
Port City Daily will run its “Like” contest on Facebook until close of business Monday, Feb. 13. The number of likes (on the photo) will determine the top two haiku entries. The contest winners will be announced on Valentine’s Day at about 10 a.m., Feb. 14.
