WILMINGTON — Hundreds of people, mostly women, have gathered around Thalian Hall as part of a nationwide series of marches and gatherings to show solidarity for women following the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Crowds started to gather on Princess Street just after 9 a.m. and by the time the event had officially kicked off at 10 a.m., Police had blocked the road between Third and Fourth streets as the crowd filled the streets.

The event has been planned for cities across the country via social media for days, with particular emphasis on women and women’s rights. The local Facebook page asked women to avoid anti-Donald Trump signs. Some of the signs being held, however, were clearly speaking of the president, such as “Don’t turn the other cheek, Donald  may grab it.”

The nationwide gatherings coincide with was was expected to be a larger march in Washington D.C.
