SCOTTS HILL – The American Red Cross is in need of blood after it had to cancel 1,500 blood drives across the state due to Hurricane Matthew.
More than 35,000 blood donations were lost because of the cancellations, but a drive in the Scotts Hill area seeks to help. Scotts Hill Baptists Church, located at 185 Scotts Hill Loop Road, is hosting a blood drive on Monday, Jan. 16.

The blood drive will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and walk-ins are welcome.
Each donor will get a Red Cross Tee-Shirt and be registered for a quarterly drawing for a $1,000 home improvement store gift certificate. The next drawing will be held March 31.
“It could be that one or more of our donations could save the lives of our neighbors and friends,” Larry Matheny. blood drive coordinator. “The need is great.”
While walk-ins are welcome, a sign-up is also available online at redcrossblood.org, then search by sponsor code Scotts Hill.
The American Red Cross recently expedited the check-in process, Mathenly said. Donors should go redcrossblood.org/RapidPass to answer donor questions on the day of the drive from their home or office.
“It is very simple to sign-up and we have made it easy to just call to make an appointment,” Matheny said.
