WILMINGTON — The suspect in a fatal hit-and-run on Oleander Drive has turned himself in.
Hernan Flores-Contreras, 57, of Wilmington, has been charged with felony hit-and-run, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to maintain lane control, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
Flores-Contreras has been charged with the death of 29-year-old Joshua Krag Roydes, who he allegedly struck and killed in the 5400 block of Oleander Drive Friday morning.
Wilmington police were called to the scene at about 7:12 a.m. Friday, for a check welfare call on a male subject lying on Oleander Drive. There, Lindsay said police found Roydes deceased in the roadway.
Their initial investigation indicated Roydes, of Wilmington, was a pedestrian who had been hit by a white work van that possibly had front end damage.
Flores-Contreras turned himself into the Wilmington Police Department on Friday afternoon, Lindsay said, adding that the suspect vehicle has also been recovered by detectives. He was placed at the New Hanover County Jail under a $50,000 unsecured bond.
“Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision, but the investigation is still ongoing,” Lindsay said.
