WILMINGTON — Ready to ring in 2017?
With New Year’s Eve just around the corner, Port City Daily reporters have asked mixologists in downtown Wilmington what type of cocktail would they make to celebrate 2017.
They’ve come up with some unique drinks and have shared their recipes for us to pass on to our readers. We’ll be sharing them over the next few days.
The second installment in this series brings two cocktails by Platypus and Gnome Mixologist Jake Sullivan.
For his first cocktail, Sullivan made the “Rosy Resolution.” It’s a drink Sullivan said he made on the spot.
The Rosy Resolution mixes Lingonberry jam, lime juice, simple syrup, gin and prosecco.
“I stood right here and put together some ingredients and thought it tasted good,” Sullivan said. “The lingonberries are from the kitchen. This was definitely a play on a dish the kitchen was serving that day.”
Here’s the recipe to try at home:
- 1 bar spoon wild Swedish lingonberry jam
- ½ oz. lime juice
- ¾ oz. simple syrup
- 1 oz. Hendrick’s gin
- Top with Tiamo Prosecco
- Garnish with orange zest
To make this celebratory New Year’s Eve drink, spoon the lingonberry jam into a mixing tin along with lime juice, simple syrup and Hendrick’s gin. Add ice to the tin and mix for a few seconds. Strain the mixture into a flute glass, top with the prosecco and garnish with the orange peel.

In addition to the Rosy Resolution, Sullivan also shared his recipe for his “Millennial Fizz” cocktail. It’s a cocktail that includes tequila, a ginger flavored liquor, sparking rosé, grapefruit and cranberry juice.
“I was thinking, I really like tequila. And grapefruit is a good winter fruit, and it plays nicely off the tartness of cranberry and the sweetness of rosé,” Sullivan said.
Here’s the recipe to try at home:
- 1 ½ oz. Patron tequila
- 1 oz. Domaine de Canton
- 1 oz. simple syrup
- .5 oz. fresh grapefruit
- A splash of cranberry juice
- Top with Cava Rosado
Start out with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice into a mixing tin and add simple syrup, Patron tequila, Domain Canton, and a splash of cranberry juice. Shake on ice and strain into a wine glass over ice. Finish by topping off with the sparkling rosé and garnish with a slice of grapefruit.
