Port City Daily’s newest weekly feature showcases the up-and-coming talent in youth sports across the Wilmington area. If you’d like to nominate your child, friend or family member for our Youth Spotlight segment, email Joe Cats at joe@localvoicemedia.com
Leading things off is nine-year old Connor Shaw. The Murrayville Elementary School student caught Cats’ attention thanks to his mom, Debby, who loves following her son to ball fields near and far.
Natural talent is evident in his mother’s Facebook video posts of young Connor smacking homers and running the bases from Ogden Park to their recent trip to the Pony League World Series in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Connor swings it like his favorite athlete, the Great Bambino, while enjoying the environment surrounding him off the field, with a rod and reel.
And what do you think would be more memorable at nine years old, hitting your first ball out of the park or playing in a national tournament 875 miles away from home?
