HAMPSTEAD — A 69-year-old Pender County Man has been charged with multiple sex crimes dating back almost four decades; now police are asking any other victims to come forward.
Police have charged Haywood Elwood Garner of Hampstead with first degree statutory sexual offense, indecent liberties with a child, crimes against nature, assault on a child under 12 and sexual battery, according to Sgt. John Leatherwood, of the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.
Garner was arrested on Oct. 21 of this year and is being held in the Pender County Jail on $525,000 bond.
Since his arrest, seven additional victims have reported being sexually assault by Garner as far back as 1979, according to an email from Leatherwood.
“Investigators believe there may be additional victims,” Leatherwood wrote.
