WILMINGTON — Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department have charged two men — 18-year-old Zibree Brawley-Washington and 28-year-old Damian Gore — in two separate murder cases, one being an unsolved murder from December 2015.
Brawley-Washington, of Wilmington, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 45-year-old Johnny Lee Johnson on Sept. 20, according to police spokeswoman Linda Rawley. Johnson was shot and killed at his home in the 100 block of North 13th Street in Wilmington.
At the time of the incident in September, Rawley said Johnson was “shot and left for dead on his front porch.”
No one had been charged immediately after Johnson’s death. But, on Oct. 4, U.S. Marshals located Brawley-Washington in Philadelphia, Penn., where he was arrested on a first-degree murder charge. He remains in custody awaiting extradition to Wilmington, Rawley said.
In another case, no suspects had been charged in the December 2015 death of 30-year-old Rashaun McKoy, which remained unresolved until this week. On Tuesday, U.S. Marshals arrested Gore in Fulton County, Georgia.
Gore, of Wilmington, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of McKoy, who police found dead on Dec. 30, 2015. McKoy was pronounced dead at the scene in the 300 block of Westchester Road in south Wilmington at around 3 a.m., according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
McKoy was located as police were investigating reports of shots fired in the area. At the time of the incident, Lindsay said Mckoy’s death could have been be drug-related.
Along with a first-degree murder charge, Gore is also facing additional charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and larceny of a motor vehicle. He remains at the Fulton County Jail awaiting extradition.
Rawley said the investigations into these murder cases will continue, but at this time detectives are not searching for additional suspects in either case.
