If you are a resident of Brunswick County and your private drinking water well flooded during Hurricane Matthew, you can get your drinking water tested for free by the county.
The Environmental Health Division at Brunswick County Health Services is offering free testing until Monday, Oct. 31. After that date, the service will cost $50. Residents can call (910) 253-2150 to schedule an appointment or to ask any questions.
According to a release from the county, if your well has been flooded, health officials recommend boiling well water or drinking bottle water until the well water has been tested and deemed safe. During flood events, bacteria can contaminate the well and make the water unsafe to drink.
