Hurricane Matthew is expected to hit the area this weekend. Due to the incoming storm, there have been changes to several events scheduled to take place this week. We will continue to update this list as more information becomes available.

Brunswick County
The Brunswick County Courthouse and Brunswick Transit System’s transportation services will be closed Friday.
Brunswick County libraries, convenient cites and the landfill will be closed on Saturday.
County parks will be closed as of 3:30 p.m. on Friday and remain closed through the weekend.
Waste Industries will not run on Saturday; all curbside collections will be completed on Friday.
Battleship North Carolina
The Battleship North Carolina will close at noon on Friday, Oct. 7. The last ticket to board the ship will be sold at 11 a.m. The ship will remain closed until Monday at 8 a.m.
ABC stores
The New Hanover County ABC Board announced that its stores will be closed Friday. The stores will reopen following the hurricane and once the properties have been assessed.
Cape Fear Literacy Council
The Cape Fear Literacy Council, 1012 S. 17 St., will be closed Friday, Oct. 7.
Ferries
Governor Pat McCrory has ordered the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division to move several of its ships out of harm’s way as Hurricane Matthew moves closer to the southeastern coast. This will require alternate schedules:
Southport-Fort Fisher:
The M/V Fort Fisher is being moved to safe harbor in Cherry Branch. The route will begin a one-boat schedule effective immediately:
From Southport (Weekdays): 7:45 a.m., 9:15, 10:45, 12:15 p.m., 1:45, 3:15, 4:45, 6:15.
From Fort Fisher (Weekdays): 8:30 a.m., 10, 11:30, 1 p.m., 2:30, 4, 5:30, 7.
From Southport (Weekends): 9:15 a.m., 10:45, 12:15 p.m., 1:45, 3:15, 4:45, 6:15.
From Fort Fisher (Weekends): 10 a.m., 11:30, 1 p.m., 2:30, 4, 5:30, 7.
Freeman Park
Freeman Park in Carolina Beach will be closed starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. According to a release from the town, the park will reopen once conditions improve and damage has been assessed.
Enforcement in the town’s paid parking lots will also be lifted beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday until further notice.
Leland
Leland Cultural Art Center will be closed Saturday, Oct. 8.

Kure Beach End of Summer Jazz Funeral – postponed until Friday, Oct. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Wilmington Grill’s 2016 National Manufacturing Day Open House – rescheduled to Friday, Nov. 4.
Laney at New Hanover high school football game – moved to Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
West Brunswick at South Brunswick high school football game – moved to Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
Ashley at Topsail high school football game – moved to Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
UNCW Swimming and Diving – both the men’s and the women’s meets against the University of Tennessee has been canceled.
Paula Poundstone at the Wilson Center – postponed; new date to be determined. Call the Ticket Central Phone at (910) 362-7999 with any questions.
Saturday, Oct. 8
The Lettuce concert scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater has been postponed. The rescheduled date and place will be Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the Throne Theater (formally Ziggy’s By The Sea). Tickets already purchased for the Oct. 8 show will be honored on Jan. 10. Ticket refunds are also available at point of purchase for a limited time. Ticket refund deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Taste of Wrightsville Beach – The event has been canceled and will not be rescheduled this year. Organizers said credits will be issued for purchased tickets.
Aviation Day at Wilmington International Airport – canceled.
Fire in the Pines in Halyburton Park – postponed to Saturday, Oct. 22.
Wilmington Riverfest – postponed to a date to be determined in November.
Paws-ability’s Bicycle Poker Run in Ocean Isle Beach – postponed; date is pending.
Pleasure Island Seafood and Jazz Festival – postponed to Sunday, April 23, 2017.
The 18th annual Son Run 5K at Wrightsville Beach – postponed until Saturday, Oct. 15.
