The New Hanover County Health Department has opened up its flu clinic for those looking to get the flu vaccine.

The clinic, located at the New Hanover County Health Department, 2023 S. 17th St., opened Monday and will be offering flu shots until Friday, Oct. 28. The injectable vaccines are available for anyone ages 6 months or older, and a high-dose version is available for patients who are 65 years of age or older. There is also a limited supply of egg-free vaccines for those allergic to eggs. The nasal spray version of the vaccine is not available this year.

For those with mobility issues, the health department can administer the vaccine in the patient’s vehicle by request. The flu clinic can also be brought to locations where 20 or more people sign up for vaccinations. Churches, businesses, community groups and others can call (910) 798-6529 to schedule a mobile clinic at their location.

Individuals can call (910) 798-6500 to schedule appointments at the health department. All major forms of health insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, Health Choice) are all accepted, as are Medicare and Medicaid. A picture ID and insurance cards are required. The vaccines can also be paid for out of pocket using cash, debit cards and credit cards.

Walk-in patients are also accepted. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit health.nhc.gov.
