WILMINGTON — Repairs to a storm water pipe will require the closure of a portion of Water Street for about two days this week. The damaged pipe caused a small sink hole in the roadway.
Crews will begin repairs to the pipe on Water Street between Grace and Walnut streets on Tuesday, according to the city of Wilmington. The storm water pipe was accidentally damaged by a telecommunications contractor. The damage resulted in a basketball-sized hole in a drainage pipe and caused a small sinkhole on Water Street
Water Street will be closed to all traffic between Grace Street and the northern entrance of the Hilton Riverside Wilmington hotel, located at 301 N. Water St. in downtown Wilmington. The roadway will also be closed to thru traffic between Grace and Walnut streets.
The driveway entrance to the Hilton will remain open and the parking lot for the Cotton Exchange will not be affected. The work will take place during low tide and is expected to last about two days.
