NEW HANOVER COUNTY – An innocent bystander was injured in a shooting at a North Kerr Avenue intersection Tuesday afternoon between “multiple parties in vehicles,” New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jerry Brewer said.
Deputies responded to the intersection of Grathwol Drive and North Kerr Avenue for a report of multiple shots fired in the area at around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Brewer. The shooting injured an innocent bystander while he was driving his vehicle.
The victim continued driving to the intersection of North Kerr Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, where he was picked up by emergency personnel and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. The man’s condition was unknown as of 7 p.m., Brewer said.
North Kerr, from Grathwol Drive to Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, was blocked off to traffic as deputies processed the crime scene. The area has since been re-opened, Brewer said.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 798-4200 or submit a crime tip online.
