UPDATE 8/23 2:29 p.m.: The link to register for this event has been removed from the Trump/Pence website. However, the campaign declined to comment about whether the event was sold out or about expected attendance.
LELAND – Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence is coming to the Wilmington area this week, according to running mate Donald Trump’s website.
The current governor of Indiana will be holding a public rally on Wednesday at Manufacturing Methods LLC in Leland. According to the schedule listed on the site, doors will open at noon, with Pence set to appear around 3 p.m.
Manufacturing Methods, located at 9244 Industrial Blvd., is a company that designs, engineers and fabricates tools and parts for a range of industries. Those interested in attending the rally can register for tickets online.
Pence’s visit comes two weeks after Trump held a rally at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington’s Trask Coliseum. That event brought thousands of people to the arena, where hundreds of protesters and supporters who could not get inside braved the heat to make their voices heard.
During that event, Trump said he needed to win North Carolina, which is considered a battleground state. It is expected to be the site of many campaign stops by the Trump-Pence ticket as well as their Democratic counterparts, Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine. The state was carried by Democrat Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election and by Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012.
