NEW HANOVER COUNTY – Sheriff’s detectives were not able to substantiate evidence in a woman’s claim that she was stabbed by a man at her Dunbar Road home in the Ogden area of the county.

At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to the woman’s home in the 7600 block of Dunbar Road, off Masonboro Sound Road.

Law enforcement set up a perimeter around the area as K9 and Wilmington’s SABLE helicopter attempted to track the alleged suspect. The woman claimed that a white male broke into her home and stabbed her in the stomach.

The woman was  reportedly taken to the hospital for treatment of the injury, which Jerry Brewer, spokesman for New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, said was not life-threatening.

“During the investigation of the stabbing from Dunbar Road, detectives were not able to substantiate that a male subject had broke into the home or stabbed the female victim,” Brewer said. “After receiving this information the sheriffs office has full confidence that the neighborhood and surrounding areas are safe.”
