WILMINGTON — Police have released the name of a young woman they say was the victim of a homicide Friday at a Market Street hotel.

Ashley Ann Mclean, 21, of Lillington, was found dead inside a room at the Best Western Plus at 5345 Market St. just before 1 p.m. Friday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

A housekeeper discovered Mclean in the room, Lindsay said. According to a 911 call released by New Hanover County Emergency Services, a man called to report a woman with no pulse on the second floor of the hotel.

The housekeeper and the manager of the hotel attempted to perform life-saving measures on the victim until EMS arrived on scene, Lindsay said. EMS pronounced Mclean dead inside the hotel room.

Detectives are continuing to investigate her death as a homicide, Lindsay said.
