WILMINGTON – Residents in a portion of Myrtle Grove are being advised to boil their water following a water main break.
The advisory issued by the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority covers the following addresses: 200 to 342 Cherokee Trail, 302 Mohican Trail, 241 Seminole Trail, 241 Mohawk Trail, 201 Navaho Trail, 100 block, and 205 Apache Trial, and 100-214 Cheyenne Trail.
According to the authority, about 80 customers are affected by the break of an approximately 40-year-old water main.
“A precautionary boil water advisory is issued following the repair of a water main break because periods of low or no pressure increase the potential for the introduction of bacteria into the water system,” a press release states.
Residents in the affected area are being asked to boil their water for one minute before consumption. Alternatively, use another water source such as bottled water.
Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, pet consumption, fruit and vegetable washing and the preparation of baby formula.
Boiling is not required prior to bathing or showering.
