Local ticket is a Mega Millions winner

Check your pockets and purses: A Mega Millions ticket someone bought for $1 at the Kangaroo Express on Castle Hayne Road is worth $1 million.

According to a release from the North Carolina Lottery, the ticket beat odds of 1 in 18.4 million to match all five white balls drawn Friday, which were 34-61-66-67-68.

Because no ticket matched all six numbers, the jackpot has climbed to a $293 million annuity, worth $198.2 million if claimed as a one-time lump sum.

Mega Millions drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Two North Carolina players have won Mega Millions jackpots.

Ticket sales help the lottery raise on average $1.4 million a day for education. To see how lottery funds have made a difference in every county in the state, visit the “For Education” page on the lottery’s website.
