A North Carolina-based breakfast franchise is now up and running in the Wrightsville Beach area.

Since opening its doors earlier this month at the former Havana’s Restaurant, 6722 Wrightsville Ave., Famous Toastery’s parking lot has remained steadily full as area residents and visitors flock to the local version of the now legendary Charlotte eatery.

The busy lines in the morning and at lunchtime are signs that co-owner Diane Kloiber’s notion that the Port City could use a few more morning-time options was right on point.

Diane and husband Joe Kloiber live in Charlotte but have a second home in Wrightsville Beach. She said their decision to buy into the chain came after noticing a lack of nearby places to grab a quick breakfast or brunch.

“I don’t have to tell you that breakfast is something that is sought after and I noticed that many people wait in line for it around here,” Diane said in an earlier interview.

Famous Toastery, which got its start in 2005 as Toast Café in Huntersville, just outside Charlotte, now has 12 locations in the southeast, from North Carolina down to Florida, with a thirteenth restaurant set to open soon in Virginia. Plans are in the works for another 18 to pop up along the east coast, all the way up to Long Island, New York, in the coming months.

“What started out as a small concept has now grown into something incredible,” Robert Maynard, who founded the franchise with childhood friend Brian Burchill, said in a Famous Toastery release. “Through franchising, we’ve been able to bring Famous Toastery to communities we never would have thought we could reach ten years ago. We’re so excited to officially open for business in Wilmington and bring our breakfast and brunch menus to the beach.”

In addition to breakfast all day–a menu that balances traditional bacon and eggs with more modern offerings like fresh Maine lobster rolls, Famous Toastery also serves up lunchtime staples like burgers, wraps and quiches.

The Kloibers’ son, Joe Jr., is heading up the restaurant.

“I had always dreamed of getting into the restaurant industry, but when I first lived in Wilmington years ago, the opportunity just wasn’t there. So when my dad and I discovered that Famous Toastery was a franchise, and that we could bring it back to our favorite city, everything clicked,” Joe Jr. said in a Famous Toastery release.

The Kloibers held a soft opening with their staff of approximately 30 in late April before its grand opening in early May.
