No charges will be filed in the shooting death of a 26-year-old man earlier this month in the Houston Moore public housing complex.
Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay said Monday that Travis Coneil Dixon, 24, of Wilmington was acting in self defense when he shot Andraes De’Quan Bryant in the Greenfield Street neighborhood in the early evening hours of April 9. Bryant also lived in Wilmington.
Bryant was pronounced dead at the scene, and Dixon, who was seriously injured by gunfire, was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Local law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office investigated the incident, announcing at the onset that they did not think the shootings were gang-related. Following the investigation, they determined no charges should be filed against Dixon, who police believe was trying to protect himself against Bryant.
“The facts show that Dixon acted in self-defense,” Lindsay said. “…After being shot himself, he shot and killed Bryant, who was the aggressor in the incident.”
