Country ham biscuits and Cheerwine donuts, y’all?

The Triangle’s southern-inspired hot spot Rise Biscuits and Donuts is setting up shop in Wilmington this summer in the Landfall Shopping Center, 1319 Military Cutoff Road.

Opening in Durham in 2012, the eatery has rapidly grown to regional and national acclaim for its unique twist on traditional sweet and savory offerings. The shop was also featured in 2014 on the Food Network’s “Donut Showdown.”

Savory offerings range from fried chicken biscuits to a faux bacon biscuit stuffed with fried eggplant.

What started with one counter-style store has now grown to a second Durham location, two shops in Raleigh and one each in Morrisville and Carrboro, with plans for another Rise in Raleigh and the first Charlotte site in May and July, respectively. Add to that the late summer arrival of Rise in the Landfall center and another 21 signed agreements for franchises planned across the state, as well as in Florida and Texas.

With a new school approach to the old school methods, Rise, which also serves lunch, offers fresh-made biscuits stuffed with everything from sausage and eggs to fried chicken and fried eggplant “bacon.” Donuts – also made in-house daily – range from the tried-and-true glazed or chocolate-topped to apple fritter and carrot cake flavors.

Rise prides itself on a rotating selection of monthly specials like a braised lamb biscuit with cucumber dill sauce and a donut that pays homage to a certain signature southern soda.

“We are excited to bring chef-driven biscuits and fun donuts to Wilmington,” restaurant founder Tom Ferguson said. “When looking at where to take Rise next, Wilmington was among our first targets. We love our Military Cutoff location and look forward to serving the entire town and coastal communities.”

Wilmington’s Rise will be located next to Terrazzo Trattoria in a 1,700 square foot spot with additional outdoor seating. The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
