A Wilmington man has pleaded guilty to trafficking heroin. Detectives found the heroin inside a child’s bedroom in October 2014.
Jerome Brown, 41, pleaded guilty Wednesday in New Hanover County Superior Court to trafficking by manufacturing heroin and conspiracy to manufacture more than 14 grams of heroin, according to District Attorney Ben David.
On Oct. 28, 2014, detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office gained information that Brown and his co-defendant in the case – 48-year-old Frederick Douglas McBride – were in possession of heroin inside an apartment at 4707 Greentree Road in Wilmington.
The detectives went to the apartment and arrested Brown and McBride outside a child’s bedroom. In the bedroom, detectives found 70 grams of raw heroin, more than 1,500 bindles of heroin, a tray table with heroin residue and other drug paraphernalia. Brown reportedly had more than $1,000 in his possession, David said. McBride also had cash and 10 bags of heroin in his pocket.
McBride previously pleaded guilty in the case to a charge of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin and being a habitual felon, David said. He was sentenced to 120-156 months in the N.C. Department of Corrections.
Judge Robert Floyd sentenced Brown to 90-120 months in prison and ordered him to pay a $100,000 fine.
