Three weeks after town council awarded the contract to complete construction on the northern boardwalk extension, work is set to begin.
Paragon Building Corporation of Wilmington will be working on the project, which will double the size of the existing wooden boardwalk. The new portion will extend 850 feet north from the current Harper Avenue terminus to Pelican Lane, passing in front of the new Hampton Inn that’s currently being built.
During construction, several wooden beach accesses, both private ones and the public Pelican Lane access, will be demolished, but access to the sand will still be available as much as possible. Three new public beach accesses will be built.
Temporary fencing will be put up during construction, which is expected to last until June, and signs will let pedestrians know how they can reach the beach during closures.
“The Town and contractor will make every effort to ensure that the construction causes as little inconvenience as possible for businesses, the public and affected property owners,” states a release posted on the Carolina Beach government website. “Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation for this important project that will provide a new safe, attractive and handicapped accessible boardwalk for residents and visitors.”
