Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department have charged two men with attempted murder in connection with a November 2015 shooting that injured 36-year-old man on a motorcycle.
Draquon Antonio Nixon, 20, and Jarrin Anthony Clarida, 23, both of Wilmington, were each charged with the shooting that happened in the 400 block of North 10th Street at about 5:30 p.m., Nov. 12, 2015, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
Witnesses reported that a passenger in a grey vehicle fired shots at a man sitting on a motorcycle. The gunfire hit the victim at least once in the abdomen, Lindsay said. The 36-year-old victim ran into Portia Mills Hines Park, where he collapsed. EMS arrived on scene and took the victim to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery that night. He has since been released from the hospital.
Nixon was arrested on Feb. 10, while Clarida was arrested by U.S. Marshals arrested early Thursday morning, Lindsay said. Nixon and Clarida, both of Wilmington, face multiple felony charges in connection with the incident, including attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury and felony conspiracy.
Nixon also faces charges of two misdemeanor probation violations, one felony probation violation and possession of a firearm by a felon. According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, he was recently convicted of felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance and a misdemeanor weapons charge on Aug. 17, 2015. He was placed on 30 months of supervised probation.
Nixon and Clarida were booked at the New Hanover County Jail under $1 million secured bonds.
