Crime notebook: Bystander injured, five homes hit in 12th Street shooting

Wilmington

A man was injured in a shooting that hit five homes Wednesday evening in the Village at Greenfield.

Multiple ShotSpotter alerts were activated in the area of the 1500 block of South 12th Street just after 7 p.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. A witness reported multiple black males, all wearing black hooded sweatshirts, fired weapons as they were walking in the area. The suspects left in a black two-door car.
One bystander was struck by a stray bullet as he was sitting on his front porch, Lindsay said. The shots also hit five homes along the block, some of the homes were occupied.
The 36-year-old victim released from the New Hanover Regional Medical Center after he was treated for a gunshot wound to his thigh, Lindsay said. The investigation is ongoing.
Shooting reported at Edge Lounge
A 28-year-old woman was shot in the arm as she was standing next to her vehicle in front of The Edge Lounge located in the 500 block of Kidder Street at about 1:25 a.m. Thursday, Lindsay said. Detectives suspect the shooting stemmed from an argument that happened at the location, Lindsay said. The woman had reportedly been in an argument at the club.
The incident is not related to the 12th Street shooting, Lindsay said.
Teen injured in Monday morning shooting

Wilmington police are investigating a shooting that injured a teen in the Village at Greenfield.

Officers responded to a 911 call at about 8:49 a.m. Monday reporting a shooting in the 1500 block of South 12th Street, according to Lindsay. A witnesses reported two males were in the street shooting at each other. Multiple gun shell casings were found at the scene.

Officers did not find the two shooters, Lindsay said. But about 20 minutes after the incident, New Hanover Regional Medical Center police called to report a  17-year-old gunshot victim had shown up at the hospital.

The teen was rushed into the operating room with at least one gunshot wound, Lindsay said.  The investigation is ongoing.

When asked if the two 12th Street shootings were related, Lindsay said detectives are “investigating all possibilities.”

New Hanover County

Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are investigating multiple larcenies from churches.

According to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer, an “influx” of breaking and enterings, and larcenies that occurred between October and December at churches in southern New Hanover County.

“The sheriff’s office is presently working several cases in which the subject [or subjects] have forcefully entered the churches,” Brewer said.

The sheriff’s office is asking the community to report any information that could assist in apprehending those responsible for breaking into the churches, he added.

Two arrested in attempted robbery

Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two teens in connection with an attempted armed robbery.

D’Marcus Tyree Malik McMillian, 19 and Taquan Marquese Barrett, 17, were each charged with attempted armed robbery, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.

The incident was reported at a home in the 4800 block of Indian Trial just before midnight Tuesday. The suspects tried to force their way into the home with a gun, but the victim was able to shut the door. The two suspects left the home and drove away from the area. But deputies were able to find the suspect vehicle, Brewer said.

McMillian and Barrett were arrested and booked at the New Hanover County Jail under $100,000 secured bonds.
