A Wilmington man has been taken into custody after threatening to kill people with a loaded gun.
According to a Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman, police responded to the 500 block of Maides Avenue near Princess Place Drive at approximately 8:50 p.m. Monday. There, officers found 39-year-old Ernest Fleming walking down the street with a “long gun,” talking to himself and threatening to kill someone.
Law enforcement gave Fleming several commands and, when he failed to comply, officers deployed a less-lethal weapon that deploys bean-bag rounds. They were able to secure Fleming’s gun and took him into custody.
Fleming is currently at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he is receiving treatment for non-serious injuries. Although no charges have been filed at this time, the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, a police spokeswoman said.
Monday’s incident occurred a block away from Manly Avenue, where late Sunday night police responded to reports of shots fired in the area. Law enforcement found spent shell casings outside a home in the 500 block of Manly. The garage door of an occupied home was hit with bullets but no one was injured.
