A Wilmington man has been charged with making false claims about his vehicle to an insurance company.
Peter Dane Koke, 49, of 226 S. Front St. in Wilmington, was arrested on charges of insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and providing false information on an insurance application, N.C. Department of Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said in a news release on Tuesday.
Department of Insurance investigators allege Koke provided false information to National General Insurance Company on Aug. 13, when he reportedly claimed his vehicle was stolen.
Investigators allege Koke also falsely claimed he repaired damages to his vehicle from an accident on July 3 in an attempt to receive a higher payment. He is also charged with providing false information on an Aug. 7 insurance application by reportedly making a false statement claiming he had no felony convictions within the past 10 years.
According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Koke was convicted of felony obtaining property by false pretenses in New Hanover County on April 1, 2008. He has also been convicted of 13 misdemeanors, including buying or selling a vehicle without a license, failing to file or pay income taxes, resisting an officer and other vehicle violations.
Koke was taken to the New Hanover County jail and placed under a $50,000 bond.
