Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the identity of a man who was found dead after he reportedly drowned in the Cape Fear River.
An unidentified Hispanic man was recovered from the river near the boat ramp at the N.C. State Park in Carolina Beach on Aug. 1, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.
The body was discovered by two fishermen and removed from the water by deputies, Sgt. Jason Augst said. The body was examined on scene and reportedly did not reveal any signs of found play. Police have been unable to determine the man’s identity.
The man is described to be between the age of 25 and 35 years old, Brewer said. He is 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 135 pounds. He has short black hair and a thin beard.
He wore blue jean shorts with a brown belt, grey boxer briefs, grey socks, no shirt and bright red Nike basketball sneakers. He also had an earring with a clear stone in his left ear.
