A new partnership in Wilmington seeks to boost real estate performance downtown by giving the spotlight to local Realtors who close the most transactions there.

A joint press release Tuesday said economic development group Wilmington Downtown Inc. (WDI) and the Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors (WRAR) have joined for the long term to annually award the most accomplished member Realtor as such, with the first recognition coming this December.

For the partnership’s purposes, downtown is defined as the area generally boxed by the Cape Fear River, 16th Street, the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and the Isabel Holmes Bridge.

“The program is not designed to define downtown, but recognize and celebrate the Realtor most successful at selling downtown,” said the joint release.

Each year’s winning Realtor, the groups explained, would be determined through analysis of the area’s transactions recorded through the Wilmington Multiple Listing Service WRAR manages.

The glory: “Wilmington Downtown Top Producer of the Year,” a title engraved on a plaque and rendered to a digital logo the honored Realtor could use in emails and online marketing. The release notes other possible prizes not yet determined.

WDI Board Chairman Clark Hipp said the new partnership would enhance the promotion of downtown’s availabilities.

“The downtown real estate market offers a unique mix of properties and marketing those properties takes Realtors dedicated to promoting and marketing that real estate,” said Hipp.

WRAR President R.J. Alex viewed it as an important economic development booster.

“The development of our greater downtown area has always been a pivotal part of our local economy,” Alex said. “Over the years, many Realtors have contributed to its continued growth through their superior performance as real estate experts.”

The first “Producer of the Year” award will surface in December at WRAR’s annual banquet, Tuesday’s release said.
