On March 28, the Wilmington Police Department responded to a call at the McDonald’s on Market Street, where they found a 32-year-old male severely beaten. He said he was lured to the Travel Inn by a woman he had met a few days prior. He reported being held at knifepoint, stripped naked, tied up and assaulted for hours by the group with lighters, cigarettes, a tow rope, a belt and other weapons.

The victim told detectives that they threatened to kill him after accusing him of sexually assaulting one of the women involved, which the victim denied. He was transported to New Hanover County Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Blanton and Martinez were arrested at Market Street and Kerr Avenue shortly after WPD was dispatched, however, a warrant was issued for the missing Floyd and Sabatell, who fled the scene in the victim’s car. They were arrested four days later.

Blanton pled guilty in June to first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is serving a 77-105 month sentence.

Charges against Floyd and Sabatell are still pending.
