WILMINGTON — Continuing the countdown of the most read pieces published on Port City Daily in 2025, an ABC series currently in production in Wilmington taps in at number four in top 10.

When ABC announced it would be filming a pilot in town earlier in the summer, “RJ Decker” became one of a few productions to roll in town in an otherwise slow year for the film industry locally.

A successful pilot shot in July at Carolina Beach’s Seawitch Cafe, as well as across Wilmington, before it was announced a full return in October. Cameras started rolling in November to film eight to 10 more episodes through March.

Based on the novel “Double Whammy” from Carl Hiaasen, “RJ Decker” is a lighthearted, hour-long crime drama, with a storyline that follows a private investigator, played by Scott Speedman (“Felicity,” “Grey’s Anatomy”), who is also an ex-con and former, if not disgraced, newspaper photographer. Decker takes on bizarre cases in South Florida with a bevy of people from his past involved.

Catch up on coverage of the initial announcement of the pilot and subsequent filming; the series is set to debut in 2026.
