The Agenda: Local government meetings

Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, May 5

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here.

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes several public hearings on development proposals. 

Pender County Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m., 805 S. Walker Street, Burgaw. The agenda includes consideration of applicants to the Pender EMS and Fire Board of Directors, a presentation of the 2024 State of the County Health Report, and consideration of a $670,923 purchase order for computer infrastructure replacement. Brunswick County Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. for a budget workshop. Meetings can be livestreamed here.

Brunswick County Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes a hearing to renew a legal services and governmental affairs agreement with Ward and Smith, approval of a treasury management agreement with First National Bank, and proposed modifications to Brunswick County’s contracting and purchasing policy. Southport Board of Aldermen will have a special budget meeting at 9 a.m. at 113 W Moore St. The meeting can be streamed here.

Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. at Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. An agenda was not posted by press.

New Hanover County Airport Authority will meet at 5 p.m. in the ILM Executive Conference Room. The public is welcome and the agenda includes:

  • Recommend to proceed with northward Terminal Expansion concept 
  • Construction/capital improvements report

Tuesday, May 6

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • City Manager’s FY26 Recommended Budget
  • Ordinance Amending the Official Zoning Maps of the City of Wilmington to Rezone Property Containing 2.11 Acres Located at 710 N. Kerr Avenue from R-10, Medium-Density Single-Dwelling District to MD-17 (CD), High-Density Multiple-Dwelling Residential District (Conditional District) for a 48-Unit Senior Housing Development
  • Ordinance Making Supplemental Appropriation in the Amount of $2,513,506 in American Rescue Plan Funds to Address Homelessness Assistance and Supportive Services

  • Initial Budget Resolution Fiscal Year 2025 2026
  • Career and Technical Education Presentation

Pender County Planning Board will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Hampstead Annex Auditorium, 15060 US Highway 17. The agenda includes a presentation on cost of community services study and trade pull factors, discussion on future land use map, and discussion on parking standards. Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. in Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The agenda includes multiple items related to utilities projects, including contracts and budget ordinance amendments for phase 2 of the wastewater treatment plant expansion and the utilities complex expansion. Topsail Beach Parks and Recreation will meet at 2:00 p.m. The agenda includes discussion and an update on the town’s multi-use path. The meeting can be livestreamed here.

Leland Town Council will hold a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Dr. The agenda includes board and committee applicant interviews. Council meetings can be streamed here

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. at the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology, 1109 Old Ocean Highway. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Yondr pouch program expansion
  • Driver education contract 

A community meeting hosted by BrodyCo developers will be held for Mayfaire West, proposed to bring 479 residences, with 256 being apartments and 223 being carriage houses and townhomes, located among the Windemere, Eastwood Village, and Parkside communities. The meeting will take place at Northeast Regional Library in the Paynter Room, 1241 Military Cutoff Road, at 5 p.m.

Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m., followed by Housing and Economic Opportunities, Inc. (HEO) Board of Directors and then the Glover Plaza, Inc. Board of Directors. Meetings take place at Rankin Terrace, 415 N. 12th St.

Wednesday, May 7

The Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in Grover Plaza, 1402 Little John Circle. 

North Topsail Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 11:00 a.m. in the Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes a public hearing on proposed FY 2025-2026 budget ordinance and considerations for appointments to the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority executive committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. at 235 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes an attorney’s report and executive director report.

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 110, 202, 310 & 314 Covil Avenue: Conditional district rezoning from R-15, Moderate-density single-dwelling district, to MD-17(CD), High-density multiple-dwelling residential district (Conditional District) for a residential development
  • Land Development Code Amendment: Amend City Code Chapter 18 to replace special use permits with conditional zoning. 

Thursday, May 8

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 121 North 8th Street: Driveway improvements, concrete patio, rear porch removal and back step reconfiguration
  • 211 South 6th Street: New accessory structure

Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Wrightsville Beach Town Hall Council Chambers, 321 Causeway Drive. The agenda includes departmental quarterly reports and selection of disaster debris cleanup contractors. 

Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning will meet at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. The agenda includes a zoning map amendment to consider a request to rezone 204 Harper Avenue from mixed use to central business district and a discussion on town UDO’s. Watch the meeting video here.

Surf City Planning Board will meet from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W Florence Way, Hampstead. An agenda was not posted by press. The meeting will be livestreamed here.

Leland Economic Development Committee will meet at 6 p.m. at 102 Town Hall Dr. The agenda includes an economic development report and county growth assessment.

Southport Board of Aldermen will meet at 6 p.m. at Southport Community Building, 223 E Bay St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County Finance Committee will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1809 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. The North Carolina State Ports Authority Finance Committee will meet Thursday, May 8, 2 p.m., in the Board Room of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Boulevard. Members of the public may join in person.
