Novant applies for new rehabilitation facility, public hearing set

WILMINGTON — Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center LLC and Novant Health Inc. have filed a certificate of need application with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to relocate 60 inpatient rehabilitation beds from Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center to develop a new inpatient rehabilitation facility in Wilmington.

The new facility will be called Novant Health New Hanover Rehabilitation Hospital. It is expected to cost $92 million and would be completed in December 2027.

Port City Daily has asked where the facility would be located and why Novant is relocating the beds from the hospital. Novant did not respond by press.

A public hearing for this project will be held April 16 at 12 p.m. in Building L, room L107 of Cape Fear Community College, 415 N. Second St. Anyone may file written comments concerning this proposal. Comments must be received by the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section no later than 5 p.m. on March 31.
