The Agenda: In local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily shares upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, March 25

Brunswick County Health & Human Services Advisory Board has a meeting at the Odell Williamson Auditorium on the Brunswick Community College Campus at 7 p.m. The public is welcome; an agenda was not posted by press.

The Brunswick County Board of Education will have a special called meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Brunswick County Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive, to approve and swear in candidate Catherine Cooke, recommended by the Brunswick County Republican Party to complete the unexpired term of David Robinson, who passed away earlier this year. 

Tuesday, March 26

Leland Planning Board meets at town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive, at 6 p.m. The agenda includes a conditional zoning map amendment for 18.85 acres, consisting of four parcels, from its existing zoning district, C-1. The land is located at NC Highway 133 north of Mallory Creek Drive. The applicant is looking to zone it M-F(CZ), Multi-Family (Conditional Zoning) to build 123 townhomes. The Pender County Schools Committee of the Whole will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 Us Highway 117 S. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Comprehensive Land Use Study
  • Science Curriculum Update
  • Update on AP Academy 

The Town of Oak Island will host its Business Advisory Board Meeting at 11 a.m. An agenda was not posted by press. The meeting will be held at 4701 East Oak Island Drive and open to the public.

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold an agenda review at 2 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. 

Wednesday, March 27

The WMPO Board of Directors will meet at 3 p.m. in the sixth floor conference room at 320 Chestnut St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution adopting the FY 25 Unified Planning Work Program 
  • Brunswick County Comprehensive Transportation Plan 

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Long Range Planning Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at 230 Government Center Drive. The agenda includes discussion of meter vault upgrades and backflow updates. 

Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 10 a.m. at the Topsail Assembly Building, 720 Channel Blvd. The agenda includes discussion of the comprehensive land use plan and amendments to the town’s conditional zoning ordinance. Videos of the meeting can be accessed here.

The Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the City of Southport Community Building, located at 223 E. Bay St. The agenda was not posted by press.

Thursday, March 28

The Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will meet at 12:30 p.m. at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. The agenda includes: 

  • Reimagine Wave Short-Range Transit Plan Update

Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees will meet at Union Station at 5 p.m. An agenda was not posted by press; the public is welcome and the meeting can be livestreamed here.

The Bald Head Island Village Council will have a special meeting at 10 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the Department of Public Safety Building, 273 Edward Teach Extension to certify the certificates of canvass to the GO bonds passed in the primary election. Meetings are live streamed here.
