The Agenda: This week in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, October 16

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will  meet at 9 a.m. at the NHC HIstoric Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. in Wilmington. The meeting can be livestreamed on NHCTV and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Consideration of 2024 Mason Inlet maintenance dredging project
  • Presentation of workforce housing program recommendations for funding allocation
  • Presentation of western bank planning study and recommendation for next steps

Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda briefing at 8:30 a.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube and GTV8.

The Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in town hall council chambers, 117 Settlers Lane. The agenda includes:

  • Discussion and approval of contract with TranSystem for the mid-block crossings
  • Discussion of the Stormwater project behind the homes on Settlers Lane

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Budget and approval for the purchase of 539 acres located in the Mid-Atlantic Industrial Rail Park
  • A presentation about Eagles Island Nature Park
  • A public hearing on updates to its UDO on data centers

Leland Council Agenda Review will begin at 1 p.m. at town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive.

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at the Hampstead Annex Auditorium. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • NCDOT update on projects
  • Resolution supporting NCDOT’s grant application for a traffic signal at the intersection of Sloop Point Road and U.S. Highway 17, to include a cash contribution of up to $66,250 if the project is awarded
  • Public hearing on the county’s bicycle and pedestrian plan

Tuesday, October 17

Surf City Beautification and Enhancement Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.

The New Hanover County Board of Elections will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Longleaf Room at the BOE office, 1241 A Military Cutoff Road, to review absentee ballot applications and discuss other election-related matters as needed. Remotely attendance is welcome by calling 1-366-218-2051 with ID 626 474 082# or livestream via Microsoft Teams.

The Pender County Board of Elections will meet at 6 p.m. at 807 S. Walker St. in Burgaw to discuss absentee ballots.

The Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 3 p.m. at 30 Government Center Drive NE in Bolivia. The meeting can be livestreamed via Zoom and the agenda is available here.

Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube and GTV8. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Ordinance appropriating $1.2 million to the parks and rec capital projects fund for the MLK Community Center gym expansion and awarding $4.5 million to Clancy and Theys Constructions for the gym expansions and kitchen renovation
  • Resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for a FY24 Environmental Protection Agency Community-Wide Brownfield Assessment Grant for $500,000
  • Resolution providing approval of a multifamily housing known as Tidewater Townhomes and financing with multifamily housing revenue bonds for $16 million

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Policy 2300: Board Meetings
  • Policy 2330: Board Meeting Agenda
  • Policy 3620: Extracurricular Activities and Student Organizations
  • Policy 7205: Standards of Professional Conduct 

Navassa Town Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at 334 Main Street. An agenda was not posted by press.

Wednesday, October 18

Wilmington Design Adjustment Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube and GTV8. The agenda includes on item: A request from MegaCorp Logistics for design adjustments  for a proposed parking expansion at 1011 Ashes Drive.

Surf City Board of Adjustment will meet at 3 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.

Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO Board will meet at 6 p.m. at Belville Town Hall, 63 River Road SE. The agenda can be found here.

Pender County Board of Adjustment will meet at 9 a.m. at the Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker St. in Burgaw. The agenda includes approval of the 2024 calendar.

Thursday, October 19

Surf City Technical Review Committee will meet at 10 a.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.

North Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at town hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes use standards for ocean hazard areas exceptions.

Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube and GTV8. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County ABC Board will meet at 9 a.m. at 6009 Market St. The meeting is open to the public.

The Town of Burgaw Planning and Zoning Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St.

The Oak Island Planning Board will meet at 9 a.m. in town hall council chambers, 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here.

The Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Leland Council meets at 6 p.m. at town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Resolution authorizing the city manager to sign an assessment of fair housing prepared by town staff and to take action
  • Discuss a text amendment regarding noise ordinances and nuisances

Friday, October 20

Surf City Council will hold a work session at 9 a.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube.

The Bald Head Island Village Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings can be livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.
