PENDER COUNTY — Students attending Topsail elementary, middle and high schools will be released due to a water main break impacting all three campuses.

Parents received a mass text and email at 9:36 a.m. advising them of the issue.

Pender County Schools is working to notify all families of students at Topsail Annandale Elementary, Topsail Middle and Topsail High School, as it works to send kids home for the day. The elementary and middle schools will be released first, starting at 10 a.m., followed shortly by the high school. Car riders can be picked up at any time.

“Our main priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all students until they are safely at home,” the message reads.

Pender County Schools released in its official announcement to the public that bottled water, food, and potable water for restrooms are available until all students are home.

It also stated repairs were in process and the water will be tested for safe consumption after the break is fixed.

“More information will be forthcoming as we learn more about the break and if it will impact our schools in the coming days,” a message to parents indicated.

Updates will be posted on its website here.
