On this episode, we’re taking a look at two recent shootings in Wilmington — and some of the bigger issues that lurk behind them.
A high-profile shooting on Mother’s Day certainly got people’s attention: a roving gun battle, one dead, and three teenagers arrested. An out of control vehicle flying down a busy road at 100 mph. And all of it in a part of town that people don’t associate with gun violence.
But the shooting was nothing new. There have been at least 866 rounds of ammunition fired by suspects in Wilmington since the beginning of the year. Five people have died, or a dozen have been injured.
So what’s causing these shootings? What can law enforcement do — and what’s beyond their control?
We get into it.
Plus, while we’re working on an exclusive interview for later this week, we do have an update on the armed and mostly-white mob that forced its way into a black family’s home in Pender County.
