WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington will rename two gyms at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in honor of longtime local coaches and youth mentors William E. “Big Train” Murphy III and Ronald E. Davis.
A naming ceremony will be held Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. at the community center located at 401 S. Eighth St.
Murphy worked for the City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department and served as director of the Eighth Street center. Davis coached several youth sports programs across Wilmington.
Since both men dedicated their lives to coaching and mentoring young people, the city found recognizing their service and legacy was appropriate at the MLK gyms. The event is open to the public.
