HAMPSTEAD — Hampstead Beekeepers is accepting registrations for its annual Beginner Beekeeping Class.
The seven-week course will offer classroom instruction followed by a hands-on field day working with live honeybees under the guidance of experienced beekeepers. Instruction is provided by experienced members of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association. Registration is $75.
Classes will be held on Monday evenings, Sept. 14 through Oct. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Hampstead Beekeepers Apiary, located at 3515 Angus Drive in Castle Hayne.
Hampstead Beekeepers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about honeybees and responsible beekeeping practices. Through education, mentoring, and community outreach, the club supports both new and experienced beekeepers while promoting pollinator health throughout southeastern North Carolina.
Topics in the beginner course include:
- Honeybee history and biology
- Beekeeping equipment Acquiring your first bees
- Hive management
- Honey production and harvesting Hive pests and diseases
- Hive products
- Bee yard safety
The $75 registration fee includes:
- A copy of First Lessons in Beekeeping
- Flash drive containing instructional presentations
- One-year membership in Hampstead Beekeepers
- One-year membership in the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association Hampstead
- Beekeepers club T-shirt
- First-year mentoring from experienced beekeepers
Additional family members may enroll for $25 each.
