
WILMINGTON — Domestic Violence Shelter and Services has announced several October events to honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
On Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m., DVSS is hosting a Silent Witness Exhibit held at Innis Park at Fourth and Princess streets.This ceremony includes life-size silhouettes representing real individuals in North Carolina whose lives were taken by an intimate partner. Each year DVSS staff read their stories aloud to remember the enormous toll that domestic violence can take and the weight and importance of the work DVSS does. At this event, IMPACT award finalists will also be recognized.
On Oct. 11 will be the 2025 Witches Paddle! Participants will launch from Wrightsville SUP for a spellbinding paddleboard. Paddleboards are available for rent from Wrightsville SUP but are limited. Contact Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc. for more information or to register.
Lastly, on Oct. 16, DVSS will host its 36th annual Take Back the Night event in Waterfront Park in downtown Wilmington. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. with a march around
Front Street and Water Street before coming together for a rally with a keynote speaker, live performances, art projects from survivors, and announcing the winner of our 2025 IMPACT Award.
For 39 years, Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc. has provided domestic violence
survivors and their children with emergency and supportive services. Their services include but are not limited to 24-hour crisis intervention, emergency shelter, individualized goal and safety planning, advocacy, material and financial assistance, criminal justice system support, counseling, children’s programs, and weekly support groups. The agency provides prevention and outreach programs in the community attempting to stop domestic violence before it occurs by providing appropriate resources and education.
